"I'll be back." The challenges of a synthetic public sphere
Talk at Infinito Delicias Madrid1 May 2026
I've been asked to contribute to this conference at Infinito Delicias with a lecture about AI, the commons, artistic research. Rather than focusing on generative AI, I'll share a few thoughts about AI as infrastructure, as cultural engine, as regulatory trigger, as gunpowder, and as luxury asset. Why not, right? 😉 Here's a short abstract.
The AI we know today represents the culmination of a trajectory of extraction, refinement, and computational scaling that began with the Industrial Revolution. The same forces that reshape tangible phenomena such as labor relations or warfare also operate as cultural accelerators—for example, in defining what counts as real. From these ambiguities emerge not only new forms of control and manipulation, but also unprecedented experiences of infrastructural imagination.
